From Buffalo to Puerto Rico: Jordan Fried’s Entrepreneurial Journey

Growing up in Buffalo with entrepreneurial parents shaped Jordan Fried’s unconventional path to success. As one of ten siblings in a household where starting businesses was the norm rather than the exception, Fried developed an early comfort with entrepreneurial risk-taking that would define his career.

“Having parents who were entrepreneurs just became normalized,” Fried reflects. “I just thought everybody started businesses. It was actually not normal for me to go get a job.” This mindset led him to launch his first venture with just $5,000 in savings, teaching himself programming without formal training or venture capital backing.

His journey took him from Buffalo to Budapest, where his wife is from, and eventually to Puerto Rico in 2020. While the island’s tax incentives initially drew him there, Fried found himself captivated by Puerto Rico’s untapped potential.

Since relocating, Fried has become deeply invested in Puerto Rico’s future, launching several businesses including a successful burger chain that has created hundreds of local jobs. His children now speak Spanish as their preferred language, and he’s become an advocate for the island’s development.

But perhaps most telling of Fried’s entrepreneurial philosophy is his approach to business development. Rather than chasing unicorn valuations, he focuses on solving real problems and creating sustainable value.

This approach has led him to transition from blockchain-focused ventures to acquiring and developing cash-flowing businesses that solve practical problems.
