The demand for iPhones and iPads in China continues to soar and the Foxconn Technology Group, which assembles them, is planning to double output capacity in its Zhengzhou factory in Henan province.
The Zhengzhou factory that was set up by Foxconn at a cost of US$ 1.1 billion in 2001 has around 100,000 employees turning out an average of 200,000 iPhones every month.
According to Morgan Stanley, Americans will buy 40% more iPads and iPhones throughout 2012 although this is disputed by other analysts’ expectations. Industry executives in China have predicted global iPhone shipments to hit 150 million systems in 2012.
The business unit that delivers iPad contracts at Foxconn will be allowed to rest for five days only during the upcoming holidays to mark the Chinese New Year, reports from News agencies have shown. Typically, workers are allowed nine days off over the holiday.
Apart from Apple brands, Foxconn is likely to get in to deals to make smart phones from other smart phone brands ,a move that could raised its revenue to an estimated US$ 20 billion. Foxconn is the trading name of Hon Hai Precision Industry (TAI:2137), a company based in Taiwan.
